Localphone Launches Free Calls to 0800, 0808 & 0500 UK Numbers

written by Admin
Localphone has recently launched a service called 0800buster that would enable their users to make free calls to certain UK numbers. These numbers include the 0800, 0808 and 0500, they are charged at no cost when you call them through the 0800buster.co.uk from any mobile phones in the UK.
We are all aware that most cellular carriers deduct some charges for calling toll-free numbers that are meant to be totally free, UK providers are not an exemption because they charge for calling these 0800, 0808 and 0500 numbers as well. well this 0800buster service offers you the option of calling these numbers mentioned for free.
The service provides you with a UK landline number to dial from your mobile’s inclusive minutes and this allows you to save some 10-20p depending on network of your subscription. The 0800buster allows you to save money in the sense that when you use the service to call 0800buster access number, these numbers should be charged at the normal landline rate. You can use inclusive minutes to UK landlines as part of your mobile phone contract to dial to these access numbers and thereby saving money.
If you are interested in using the service, you can dial 01207 45 0800, 0800buster access number, and then enter the 0800, 0808, or 0500 number you want to phone. Press # to start the call. We would like to hear from our readers about what they think of this service from Localphone.

Apple Speaks on iPhone Push Notification

written by Admin

Apple has finally broken the silence concerning iPhone Push
Notification and the reason why so many high profile push-capable
applications haven’t been released into the App Store could probably
due to the fact that Apple just hasn’t worked out all of the push
notification bugs quite yet.
It appears from all indications that Apple is now approving
applications that require the push technology despite the fact that
push notification seemed sorely lacking from last week’s iPhone OS 3.0
update. Push Notification is a new feature in the iPhone OS 3.0 that
allows you to, drum rolls please, receive notifications on your iPhone
regardless of the fact that the app the notification refers to is not
currently running.
According to a report made available by BoyGeniusReport, Beejive, the
multi-protocol instant messaging platform that incorporates AIM
alongside other IM clients, has also been updated to support the
iPhone OS 3.0’s Push Notification feature.

Carriers Demand FCC to Set Network Price Caps

written by Admin

In a move to have a voice in order to actualize their demand, some
mobile carriers including Sprint, T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular have come
together to ask the Federal Communications Commission to set price
caps for data and voice network connections. These companies blame
declines in capital expenditures on higher access rates and urged the
FCC to consider their plight.
According to Sprint, one-third of its costs for each cellular tower is
invested in the transfer fees. Similarly, AT&T filed comments to the
regulator stating that Sprint is blaming its “declining capital
expenditures
” on access rates.
The coalition stated that AT&T and Verizon own 80-90 percent of the
market that connects the wireless networks to the Internet. It is
hoped that FCC would soon look into issue and a positive action would
be taken to right this.

Localphone Slashes International Calling Rates

written by Admin

Localphone has further reduced calling rates to some international
destinations. The company recently announced that VoIP calls to
various destinations across the world such as India, Pakistan, and
Bangladesh. We are all aware that many VoIP providers are currently
promoting their brands by reducing the international calling rates.
Therefore it becomes necessary for them to offer reasonable reduction
if they are going to entice users to their service.
Some of them including Localphone are moving towards a standard rate
of one cent per minute for making calls to India while the rates for
making calls to Pakistan are still ranging between 6 and 9 cents per
minute. Although Betamax services such as Actionvoip, Smartvoip, and
Jumblo are offering one of the cheapest calling rates for making calls
to most of the Asian countries, these providers cannot be relied upon
when it comes to the money part.
There are few of them like Localphone, nevertheless, who offer quality
service to the customers in addition to low call rate. The company
offers its customers the local access numbers in various countries.
Along with this, it also offers great VOIP services that can be used
from anywhere across the globe. To be able to use their services, you
just need to download their Localphone VOIP softphone. Alternately,
you can also configure Localphone SIP settings on X-lite or your VOIP
adapter.
Localphone has cut down the calling rates for the following countries.
These are effective from 12:00 GMT (noon) on Monday 13th July.
Localphone has slashes calling rates for the following countries.
Calls to Bangladesh now cost 3.5¢ /min, calls to India are available
at 2.5¢ /min, calls to Malaysia can be made at 1.4¢ /min, while the
calls to New Zealand can be made at 16.0¢ /min. The calls to New
Zeealnd are only available for mobile numbers. The call rates for
Pakistan are available at 7.9¢ /min, to South African Mobiles at 10.9¢
/min, and calls to Thailand are available at 1.0¢ /min.
If you are currently using their service, kindly tell us your opinion
about how effective it is and what is your overview assessment.

Reviewing SIP VoIP Softphone from Pangolin

written by Admin
It is no longer news that we are heading towards another level of
revolution in the communication world, VoIP is just setting the stage
for voice communication yet the market appears unexploited with huge
potentials for providers to cash in. Another line of immense benefits
is the use of PortSIP softphone for voice communication. There are
several companies offering VoIP through this platform and one of the
is Pangolin.
Pangolin Free Softphone is a fully functioning softphone featuring
many of the popular features. With your existing connection to a VOIP
or broadband service (e.g. Vonage, BT, AT&T) or an IP-PBX connection
(e.g. Asterisk, enterprise LAN), it allows you to make calls to any
softphone, mobile or landline number.
It is the newest free softphone application from PortSIP and it’s
built based on PortSIP VoIP SDK. Lets find out how Priyanka rated and
reviewed PortSIP. This VoIP client is free and it supports both Win5
as well as Win6 for mobile. The client also allows you the option of
taking the calls on earphones.
To be able to do so, you need to tick this option when you sign into
the SIP login. This facility of the VOIP client helps you overcome the
problem of sound coming through speaker as in cases of HCT TILT and
some other win phones. In the process of call being connected, you may
click the speaker icon twice to be able to listen to the sound through
the earpiece.
Some other important features of the phone client include the
facilities of call transfer and call recording. You must check out for
these features to avail the maximum benefits.
We would be glad to hear from you if you have been using PortSIP Pangolin.

Jaduka Shuts Down VoIP Services

written by Admin
Jaduka has finally bowed down to the reality in failing to keep up
with too many unrealistic offers by closing down its Jadula Labs VoIP
applications. The close down became effective as at July 2, 2009
following the company’s announcement that it would no longer offer all
the freebies including the popular Dukadial, DukaBar & DukaUS.
Until now, Jaduka service, dubbed Earthcaller, allowed U.S. business
and vacation travelers overseas place calls through browsers on their
Internet-connected PCs to phones back home. Callers could use
headsets, but Jaduka terminates the calls in the U.S. for free. The
company also offered a network-speed test to help users predict call
quality, and it tests their microphone and headset volume.
Another service, dukaLINK, provided click-to-call links that users
could embed in social-network pages, online ads, blogs or email
messages. Clicking the link let a potential friend or customer call
the user for free without revealing their real phone numbers. A third
service, dukaBUZZ, allowed visitors to blogs or Web sites to leave
audio comments. And dukaBAR is a toolbar plug-in that converts any
phone number on a Web site into a click-to-call link.
All these would no longer be available and to such effect, the company
has published a notice to all its clients. You would find the
following on their official website “After July 2, 2009 you will no
longer be able to access your Labs account. At Jaduka, we respect your
privacy. To protect your privacy, your Jaduka Labs account information
has been removed from our servers. We thank you for your
participation.”
We always wondered what their business model was and how they planned
to actually make money from this service. Probably they just never did
and used it as a pool of beta testers for their other products. Not a
bad deal overall for either side. Dukadial was a wonderful service, it
was launched in 2008.

Latest on UAE VoIP VPN Block

written by Admin
We recently talked about sites and various ISPs blocking the VOIP in
UAE and how some providers have introduced other means to enable UAE
users benefit from VoIP services. We also reported on how Etislat and
many other ISP’s in UAE region have always been against the usage of
VoIP. We recalled reporting that some players in the UAE market such
as Hotspotshield and Kongshare may work for some users but the
services provided by these players are still not reliable for many. We
stumbled upon the comment of a VoIP user based in UAE who shared his
experience when trying to use VPN based VoIP.
He explained how he has been enjoying the service of VoIP in UAE
untill sometime around the day of 24th April or 25th April 2009, when
suddenly his VoIP client stopped connecting and he was unable to make
VoIP calls anymore. After some enquiries, he later found out that
Etislat had blocked most of the VoIP clients including his own
provider.
According to him “There is a very popular company, which was operating
freely in UAE by the name of BetaMax. It provides popular VoIP clients
such as FreeCall, SmartVoIP, BudgetSIP, JustVoIP, InterVoIP etc. All
of these VoIP clients had different rates and different designs but
all of them belong to the same company Betamax. So, the ISP – E T I S
A L A T put a full block on BetaMax and all these clients stopped
working. Some days passed and I tried to use the client using
Hotspotshield and Ultrasurf but the voice quality was not good and
people in my Home country, where I used to call, complained very often
that the voice was cracking and often it would get disconnected.”
He eventually got what would become a temporary solution after along
time of research when he discovered that he could use a VPN connection
to make VoIP calls. He tried to use VPN connection from two different
VPN companies but the result was the same. He said “although I would
be able to login and connect and even make calls but while I was able
to hear the voice of the other party very clearly, my voice would not
travel to them clearly and it would crack a lot.
“I have also heard about three people getting fined by Etisalat. A
person in my own office was fined AED 2,500 for using VoIP. It is
indeed true that E T I S A L A T is cracking in on users, who are
making VoIP calls. So, you would have to be extremely careful or pay
penalties to E T I S A L A T. I am now trying to see if there are any
alternatives to this and if yes, I would post.”
This is an account of one of the several thousand users of VoIP in UAE
that has been blocked from benefiting from using what in “our world”
is way of communication. If you know of a better way through which
users of VoIP can benefit from the service or you want to share your
view with us please feel free to do so.

free unlimited calls to many destinations around the world including
India. Well, without any prior notice whatsoever and after a lot of
people have painstakingly bought MetroPCS unlimited calling plan to
make free international calls to India the company stooped offering
free calls to Indian mobile numbers.
This action has left some users stranded a bunch of them could
understandingly be considering canceling MetroPCS plan. The company is
yet to state the reason behind this and we do not know if this would
affect those new signups for MetroPCS unlimited calling plan.
We urge anyone with any useful info about the possible reason(s)
behind the sudden stoppage of free unlimited calls to India Mobile by
