Verizon Launches New Hub VoIP Phone

Encouraged by the recent reports about positive expectation in the VoIP industry, Verizon has launched their own VOIP Phone Service called the Verizon Hub. It’s a Verizon Wireless VoIP phone coming about at a time when AT&T is killing their VoIP service entirely.
It is an all-in-one device that could become your home’s new communications center. It combines the basic functionality of a connected digital photo frame and a calendar with advanced communications features such as unlimited text and picture messaging, a VoIP telephone (complete with simultaneous ring and anonymous call block), and visual voice mail.
It sports a 7-inch, 800-by-480-pixel WVGA touch-screen LCD, the 9-by-12-by-0.5-inch (HWD) Hub is a good-looking device. It’s also easy to configure: Connecting the 802.11b/g device to our network took only a few minutes, although you’ll probably prefer to connect via Ethernet for greater stability. If you do lose connectivity for any reason, calls are forwarded to a user-selectable backup number, such as a mobile phone.
Other features include; Calendar (with Text Message Reminders), built in GPS like features to search for restaurants, bars, banks, Weather updates, Voicemails etc.
You can add the Hub only to an existing Verizon Wireless account, and you’ll pay $249.99 (plus an additional two-year contract) or $319.99 (for a one-year contract). At the time of our review, there was a $50 mail-in rebate available, but there’s also a hefty $34.99 monthly charge.
